Insight: Capitol Chat / Mustard Seed Spin / Christian McBride Trio
Capitol Chat-Governor Jerry Brown is furiously signing and vetoing legislative bills before a midnight Sunday deadline. Some of the bills he's signed include a moratorium on closing state parks and a ban on using dogs to hunt bears. In this edition of Capitol Chat, we catch up on the Governor's latest actions with Capital Public Radio's Capitol Bureau Chief Ben Adler.
Mustard Seed Spin-The Mustard Seed Spin generates a donation of about $30,000 a year for the Mustard Seed School. The Spin gets kids and their families riding bikes for a good cause, and this is the 8th year for the event. One exciting development this year has been endorsement of the Spin by a young local cyclist named Mary Maroon. The Spin is Sunday, September 30.
Christian McBride Trio-Jazz bassist Christian McBride has played with and arranged music for some of the music industry's greatest icons, including James Brown, Sting and Don Henley. He's also been one of modern jazz's most prominent and busy figures for the past 20 years. McBride is constantly involved in a number of trios, quartets and big bands, but his latest project is the Christian McBride Trio, which features emerging pianist Christian Sands and multi-Grammy-award-winning drummer Ulysses Owens Jr. You can catch the Christian McBride Trio during one of four shows this weekend (September 26 to September 29) at the Mondavi Center's Vanderhoef Studio Theater.
